ACHSIA sadly reports the passing of John P. Luksic, Former US Customs Service Assistant Commissioner for Enforcement and Special Agent in Charge, Los Angeles, California.

John Peter Luksic, born on December 7, 1941, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, passed away following complications from a long battle with leukemia. He lived a life defined by service, integrity, leadership, and devotion to his family and community.

John was a son of the late William C. Luksic and Bernadine Schmitt Luksic. He was preceded in death by his siblings, William Luksic, Anna Mary and her husband Bill Myers, and Mary Jo Luksic. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Gail Audi Luksic, whom he married on July 14, 1979. He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph Luksic of Drums, Pennsylvania, Victor Luksic and his wife, Joyce, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and sister-in-law Dorothy Luksic of Rockville, Maryland as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, John dedicated his life to serving his country and protecting others. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Justice from American University and completed a distinguished career in law enforcement as a Pennsylvania State Trooper.

For many years, John was employed by the United States Customs Service as a Special Agent. Through dedication, exceptional leadership, and unwavering commitment to public service, he advanced through the ranks to become Assistant Commissioner for Enforcement. His career afforded John and Gail the opportunity to live and travel throughout the United States and Europe, creating a lifetime of treasured memories together.

Following his retirement from government service, John began a second successful career as Vice President of Regulatory Compliance with DutyFree Americas, where he shared his extensive knowledge of security, imports, and exports.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, John believed strongly in giving back to his community. He was a proud supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters, reflecting his commitment to mentoring and enriching the lives of young people.

John will be remembered for his strength, wisdom, generosity, and steadfast dedication to those he loved and served. His courage throughout his long battle with leukemia was an inspiration to all who knew him. His legacy of service, compassion, and integrity will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

Services for John will be held on Wednesday, August 5, at St. Nicholas–St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 226 South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of
Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.
